Jackson, Miss. — Governor Phil Bryant has declared a state of emergency ahead of the severe weather moving through the area.

“All our citizens need to be prepared for this severe weather event,” Governor Bryant said. “Everyone should know how to receive weather alerts and have an action plan to take shelter if severe weather strikes.”

According to the governor’s website, a state of emergency is used to allow local governments to request state assistance when it comes to recovery efforts.
