NEWBERN, Tenn. — Murder suspect Austin Drummond was captured Tuesday, the same day as the funeral for James Matthew Wilson, one of his four alleged victims.

Family and friends gathered at the Johnson-Williams Funeral Home to honor the memory of 21-year-old James Matthew Wilson, known to many as Matthew.

Wilson was the father of the baby who was found in front of a house in Dyer County, reportedly left there by Drummond, before Wilson’s body was found in Lake County.

Matthew was remembered as a devoted father with a quick wit and infectious smile, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.

“He was a devoted father and would do anything to take care of his child and family. Matthew’s quick wit and infectious smile lit up any room he walked into. Growing up with him was an adventure, he was always there whether to offer a helping hand or to provide a shoulder to lean on. Though his time with us was cut short, the impact he made on us will last forever,” his obituary stated.

Residents in Dyer County told WREG on Tuesday they were relieved that the manhunt for Drummond had finally come to an end.

We were able to speak with a friend of Courtney Rose, the 38-year-old victim. The woman would not speak on camera as she was still very emotional about the news, but said that family came first for Courtney.

“I was around the same age so we went to school together, she always seemed to take care of her family and she was just a good person,” she said.

Drummond had been on the run since last Tuesday, when the bodies of James Wilson, 21, Adrianna Williams, 20, Cortney Rose, 38, and Braydon Williams, 15, were found along Carrington Road in Tiptonville.

An infant who was related to the victims was also found safe in front of a house in Dyer County.

All of the victims, and the infant, were related. The girl’s mother, Adrianna Williams, was also one of the victims.
