COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — Language barriers will soon be diminished for Collierville Police.

The department will launch a technology called Enabling Language Services Anywhere that accesses live translators. ELSA uses a wireless network to make translators in 180 languages and dialects available to officers. These translators can interact with both the officer and the client at any time.

“This ability to provide real-time communication between people who speak different languages in virtually any situation or environment is key in assisting the police department to better serve our citizens and guests in Collierville,” Collierville Police Assistant Chief Jeff Abeln said.

Collierville Police is currently training officers to use the device in anticipation of taking it on the job in the near future.

RTT Mobile Interpretation developed the technology for law enforcement officers, but it is also being used in the healthcare, government and financial sectors.
