MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man returned from a work trip to find his 2020 Dodge Charger stolen from the Memphis International Airport parking garage.
But despite having the car’s location through Sirius XM’s Guardian GPS services, he is frustrated that the Memphis Police Department has not acted on the information to recover his vehicle.
Eric Thompson, who had parked his car at the airport’s covered parking garage, discovered his Dodge Charger was missing last Monday.
“Whoever stole my car, left another stolen car at the airport, so they drove a stolen car into the airport and turned around and left with my car,” Thompson said.
A car thief drove into the parking garage with a stolen car, then stole Thompson’s Dodge Charger. The thief managed to escape by following another car’s bumper and outrunning police.
Thompson, a construction manager who frequently travels for work, expressed his frustration with the situation, particularly since he pays extra to park in the airport’s covered parking garage.
“You pay that because you’re looking for the security, and this what happens,” Thompson said.
“Why is it so difficult, why is it taking this long? And I get, we have a few people of interest, that’s all I got,” he said.
Thompson says that if he had access to the GPS data, he would retrieve the car himself, as the tracker can pinpoint the car’s location and movements.
Due to the incident, Thompson has decided not to use Memphis airport for future travels, preferring to drive to Nashville instead.
“I will not fly out of Memphis again, I won’t, I just won’t. I will not park my car there again,” he stated.
Thompson’s insurance company has indicated that if the car is not found by Thursday, they will reimburse him for the loss.
However, Thompson says he doesn’t want money because of the sentimental value the car has.
