PARCHMAN, Miss. — As two Mississippi residents learned, condoms may protect you from a number of things, but they do not protect you from the consequences of smuggling contraband into a prison.

Stephanie Barber, 52, of Coldwater and Ashley Fitch, 30, of Senatobia were arrested after they allegedly used a condom to sneak forbidden items into the Mississippi State Penitentiary, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

The condom was filled with a small amount of marijuana, 15 pills of Xanax, Subutex and Lorcet, a pair of ear buds and a SIM card.

The crime was uncovered when the condom was discovered in a bathroom.

Barber and Fitch were visitors to the prison during weekend visitation.

They now face charges of conspiracy and introduction of a controlled substance into a correctional facility, both felonies. Both are also barred from visiting the prison.

The two were booked at Sunflower County Jail, where Barber posted an $8,000 bond. Fitch is still being held on an $8,000 bond.

The identity of the inmate to whom Barber and Fitch were giving the contraband has not been released due to the ongoing investigation.
