MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s day one of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, and as thousands flock to see the world’s best golfers at TPC Southwind, local businesses are also reaping the rewards.
Memphis Tourism tells your news leader that the tournament has historically pumped tens of millions of dollars into the Memphis and Shelby County economy, and they’re hoping it does the same this year.
“It’s a huge boost for us, business quadruples, it’s definitely a banner week for us. Busiest week of the year, it’s like Christmas in August for us. Everybody benefits from it, the staff, myself, the sales for the restaurant, and this weeks like no other, it really brings everybody together,” said General Manager of East End Grill Chris Fitz.
And Chris tells me a ton of Golfers, Caddies, and TPC Southwind staff often stop by the restaurant to grab a bite to eat.
If you’re going to East End Grill, they recommend the Cobb Salad and the Barbecue Nachos.
When the giant checks are presented to the winner of the FedEx St Jude Championship, the golfers usually just take the money and leave the check behind.
TPC Southwind then gives the checks to East End Grill for them to hang on their wall for decoration
The restaurant is also running one of the hottest promotions in town right now, Free Michelob Ultras from 5 to 6 pm all week long, during the golf tournament.
