MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis-Shelby County School Board has approved an xAI donation to bring upgrades to four schools in the area of their super plant in South Memphis.

xAI will perform maintenance at four schools, including improvements to HVAC systems, athletic fields, chemistry and technology labs, landscaping, and painting.

The schools are Fairley, Mitchell, Westwood, and John P. Freeman Optional School.

“xAI is going to exist in Memphis, whether the Memphis-Shelby County School Board approves of their existence or not,” said Amber Huett-Garcia, board member.

School board members Keith Williams and Stephanie Love voted against the plan.

“It’s going to have a very devastating effect on the health of that community. And if it does, if and when it does, the blood will be on the hands of this school system and those of you who are bringing it. Because if it were what you’re saying it is, why would they bring it to Whitehaven? They would take it where everybody else lives, they are not going to destroy their communities,” Williams said.
