MEMPHIS, Tenn.– Students at Hernando High School will step into a brand-new school this morning.

The million-dollar project includes spacious classrooms, a library, new sports facilities and a gymnasium.

With DeSoto County being the largest school district in Mississippi and welcoming nearly 35,000 students to its classrooms, Superintendent Cory Uselton said there are more plans to expand to accommodate the population increase.

“Also, we’re building a freshman academy at Lewisburg High School as we speak, that will have over 25 classrooms there on the high school campus that will open next spring. And we’re also hoping to start on a new project, a Career Tech East Center that’ll be in Olive Branch, and that will serve, students at DeSoto Central High School, Lewisburg High School, Olive Branch High School, and Center Hill High School,” he said.

“We’re hoping that that’ll be completed in 2027.”
