MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has been arrested after a woman was killed in a shooting at an apartment complex in the Windyke area on Wednesday night.

Anthony Freeman, 24, was charged with negligent homicide, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and tampering with evidence.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to a shooting with injuries at the City Place at Germantown Apartments near Bromden Lane and Scanlon Drive around 10:25 p.m.

A woman was found at the scene, lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies say they began life-saving efforts, but she was pronounced dead when paramedics arrived.

Deputies later identified the woman as Taquirney Fifer.

The sheriff’s department said that the incident was determined to be a homicide.

Two men were detained in connection with the deadly shooting, according to deputies.

After investigating, Freeman was identified as the suspect.

According to SCSO, the victim drove Freeman to the apartment complex to purchase a firearm and illegal narcotics.

They said that during the transaction, Freeman was handling the firearm when it discharged and struck Fifer.
