MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 4-year-old child died after he was shot Monday in a Frayser apartment complex, Memphis Police said.
Officers responded at 1:34 p.m. to 3670 Pershing Park Drive, where they found the boy. He was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
A couple of hours later, police reported that the child died.
Police haven’t said how many times the child was shot. They did say, however, that two children were playing in a room by themselves when the child was shot.
People who didn’t know the child were sad to know that they never will.
“It’s absolutely heartbreaking. I mean, it’s absolutely heartbreaking when you make the scene of anybody, a child or an adult,” a resident said.
Monday night, MPD tweeted a reminder to residents that free gun locks are available at their local precinct.
Just a friendly reminder to secure your firearms. There are FREE gun locks available at your local Memphis Police precinct. https://t.co/od6oWn6RVi
